Most recently we have seen an increase in the number of berried Tiger shrimp and on a few occasions a few Tiger shrimplets. The puzzling thing is that despite the large number of berried shrimp we are yet to see juvenile shrimp. Our guess is that the young ones are not adjusting well to the tank settings and are dying at an early stage. This has been going on for more than 4 months and counting. Instead of allowing the berried Tiger shrimp to hatch their eggs in the 20g tank where they currently habitat, we are going to transfer any berried Tiger shrimp from the 20g tank to a 30 gallon. The 30g tank has some plants and most shrimp seem to do well in there. This project will be ongoing until visible signs of juvenile Tiger shrimp start to show.

This project is risky because normally, mature shrimp have a lower survival rate when transferred from one tank to another as compared to juvenile shrimp. This might also lead to stressing them since they are berried. In order to increase their chances of survival, we are going to properly acclimate them. We have decided to use the trickling water method instead of putting water every 10-15 minute intervals. From our perspective the trickling water method is long but it is efficient in that water is slowly being injected into the container and this does not stress the shrimp as much.

7 berried Tiger shrimp have been transferred to the 30g tank. This will also give us the opportunity to observe how long the gestation period lasts in Tiger shrimp.
