Why Shrimp Diaries uses Kordon Breather Bags for shipping shrimp and snails?

Shipping live aquatic products has just got easier with an innovative method that ensures the products reach their final destination alive and in good health. This is all thanks to the “breather bag”. When live aquatic animals are put in the breather bag, it allows oxygen to go in and at the same lets carbon dioxide out. Here at Shrimp Diaries we use Kordon Breather bags to ship all our live products. The percentage of deaths during shipping is reduced whenever we use Kordon Breather bags.

The breather bags can be used for handling and shipping live aquatic animals and plants. A unique ethylene plastic in the bag allows the carbon dioxide build up in the water to be exhaled through the walls of the bag and at the same time inhales oxygen into the bag. This means animals will not be suffocated due to lack of oxygen. Furthermore, the aquatic animals can stay in the bags for longer periods of time during shipment. According to the Breather Bag website, “This can also mean that the fishes can be stored in the Breathing Bags for weeks when they are collected in the tropics from rivers, lakes, or coral reefs  It can mean that the Breathing Bags can be used as containers for fishes or other aquatic life that need to be isolated or quarantined.

Despite the enormous benefits for using Kordon Breather bags, we doubt that aquatic animals can survive in there for weeks considering the waste build up which eventually leads to nitrates which are toxic to aquatic animals.

Shipping containers for aquatic animals are compatible with breather bags as they will not hinder oxygen from getting in or carbon dioxide from getting out. These bags can be used over and again so long there are no holes.
